Mike Fleming

Starting work at Killarney National Park in 1977, Mike has been working with Kerry cattle for over 20 years. Mike is the chief herdsman for the historic Muckross Herd and cares for the cattle on a daily basis.
In the historic footsteps of Arthur Rose Vincent who first began a herd in 1910, Kerries are still bred at Muckross. The cattle would have been milked in the 1920’s and 30’s, which essentially is their purpose. Today they are larger kept ‘for show’ and are not farmed commercially. The potential is there to produce an artisan product, with Muckross being one of Ireland’s greatest tourist attractions.
